Professor Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi Appointed as Regular Registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia

Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi today assumed charge as the Registrar of Jamia Millia  Islamia (JMI) for a period of five years. With the appointment of Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, the university gets a full-time, regular Registrar after a long gap of more than 4 years. 

Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Director of the  Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Jamia Millia Islamia, is a distinguished academician, scholar and administrator with more than 20 years of teaching and research experience. He has previously worked in premier and prestigious institutions and think-tanks of the Government of India, including, the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, New Delhi. He specializes in international relations, foreign policy and security issues with a focus on Iran, Iran's Nuclear Programme, Iran-China economic, political and defence relations. A close observer of developments in West Asia and North Africa region, energy security in West Asia and peace and conflict resolution in the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region, Prof Rizvi has spearheaded several joint research projects of IDSA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, and GCC countries.

Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi is the Visitor's Nominee of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Court since April 2022 and serves as an external member of the Institutional Academic Integrity Panel (IAIP) Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, besides serving on the Boards of several Centres and Departments of JMI. A Ph.D. in Political Science (International Relations) from AMU, Prof. Rizvi has been a recipient of the coveted Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Scholarship for Doctoral Studies, Teen Murti House, New Delhi. A prolific scholar, his  work  has been widely received by scholars in India and abroad, especially those working on  West Asia. 

Vice-Chancellor JMI, Prof. Mazhar Asif,  extended his congratulations to the JMI fraternity on getting a full-time Registrar after a long wait of over 4 years. Prof.  Asif said, " I am hopeful that with the appointment of the regular Registrar, the university will witness a period of administrative excellence and efficiency". He added, "Under Prof. Rizvi, the focus of JMI administration will be to streamline processes in order to maximise productivity of both the teaching and non-teaching faculty and staff so that JMI can attain the highest levels of academic growth and development ".

Under the leadership of the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif, we are committed to optimizing our existing resources and working towards getting more funds from various Ministries and Offices of the Government of India so as to enhance the infrastructure of the university."  Prof. Rizvi said "The administration will continue its keen focus on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and take all necessary steps to create a harmonious, enriching and academically enabling environment for the intellectual growth and progress of our vibrant student community". 

A wave of joy and excitement spread among JMI faculty, staff members and students as they received the news of the appointment of Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi as the full-time Registrar. This, they echoed, will not only streamline and strengthen the functioning of the 104-year old Central university but also infuse in the much needed vigour, stability and enthusiasm essential to fostering good governance and efficiency in administration

Aligarh, March 12: Mr. Noorus Salam, currently serving as the Joint Finance Officer at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed as the Finance Officer of the University. He will hold this position alongside his existing duties until further orders.

Prof M. Mohsin Khan Appointed AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor

ALIGARH, March 10: Professor M. Mohsin Khan from the Department of Commerce, Aligarh Muslim University, has been appointed as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the university with immediate effect, until further orders.

Prof Khan is a distinguished academician, researcher, and administrator with more than three decades of experience in the higher education sector. Over the years, he has held various significant positions within the university. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce from 2014 to 2016 and as the Chairman of the Department of Commerce from 2016 to 2019. Additionally, he held the office of University Proctor for more than three years and is currently serving as the Finance Officer of the university.

An accomplished researcher, Prof Khan has published dozens of research papers and authored several books and monographs. He has actively participated in numerous national and international conferences, seminars, and symposia as a speaker and chair. His commitment to research and academic mentorship is evident in his guidance of 15 Ph.D. scholars, with four more currently pursuing their research under his supervision.

Prof Khan has also led significant research projects, including an ICSSR-sponsored major research project titled "The New Middle Class: Impact on Growing Indian Economy vis-a-vis Consumer Market - A Case Study of Delhi & NCR" (2017-19).

Throughout his service at AMU, he has held several key administrative positions, including Member Incharge of University Gas Services and President of the University Swimming Club. As a faculty member, he has been actively engaged in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students, with specialization in entrepreneurship, banking and finance, and financial institutions and markets.

During his tenure as Chairman of the Department of Commerce and as Dean of the Faculty, he played a pivotal role in initiating multiple academic activities, including four workshops, one international conference, and one national seminar. His enthusiasm for sports has also been evident through his active involvement in the university's sports activities, coordinated by the University Games Committee.

Union Budget 2025-26

 

               JMI’s Department of Economics organizes Panel Discussion on Union Budget 2025-26

New Delhi: The Subject Association, Department of Economics, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) organized a Panel Discussion on the Union Budget 2025-26 on February 10, 2025, at the Conference Room of the Department. The event commenced with opening remarks by Prof. Asheref Illiyan, Head of the Department, who outlined that Budget is not simple numbers but they show the policy priorities of the Government. Therefore, a detailed analysis of the budget is an imperative. He highlighted the positive aspects of Union Budget 2025-26.

The distinguished panelists of the event were: Prof. Arun Kumar, former Professor, Centre for Economic Studies and Planning (CESP), Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) and Prof. Amitabh Kundu, former Dean, SSS, JNU. The session was moderated by Dr. Md. Zakaria Siddiqui, Associate Professor, Department of Economics, JMI.

Prof. Arun Kumar, provided the macroeconomic context to this year’s budget. He underscored that economic growth has slowed, unemployment continues to rise and growth of inequality remains unchecked. In his view this year’s budget continues with the trend to adopt the infrastructure spending oriented growth strategy which is not adequate to combat growing inequality which is a major concern in India. Further, this strategy limits the scope for addressing the growing unemployment problem of this country. He highlighted the need to focus on the informal sector, as it provides employment to 75% of the non-agricultural workforce in India, and job intensive sectors for the sustainable growth of the Indian Economy.

Prof. Amitabh Kundu highlighted the growing trend of neglect of socially disadvantaged communities in the Indian budget. Not only that the generic social sector spending is restricted but the budget of the 

Ministry of minority affairs has also seen significant decline over time despite very low achievement of minorities in social outcomes compared to national average such as educational and health outcomes. As a result of this neglect in budget, there has been continuous reduction in enrolment of Muslims in educational institutions right from secondary to higher education. 

This is particularly worrying when National Education policy wants to increase Enrolment in higher education to 50% in 2035 from 26.3% in 2017-18. He argued for increased spending for the social sector and minorities particularly Muslims.

Dr. Zakaria Siddiqui summarized the discussion by panel speakers and highlighted the need for focusing on virtuous growth that combats the issue of significant lag that India experiences in human development, growing unemployment and unprecedented inequality by focusing spending on human development led growth policies.

The event was enthusiastically attended by students, research scholars, and faculty members from the Department. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Vasim Akram, student advisor, Department of Economics, JMI. The event was coordinated by Dr. Vasim Akram and Dr. Md Kashif Khan. Ms Sahana Arakkal and Aksat were the student coordinators of the event.

AMU Arts Faculty Journal 'Daanish' Released

ALIGARH February 12: The Urdu journal 'Daanish' of the Faculty of Arts, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), was released by the Dean, Professor T.N. Satheesan at the Arts Faculty Lounge.

Speaking on the occasion, Professor Satheesan highlighted the significance of 'Daanish' in preserving and promoting Urdu literature and scholarship. He emphasized that the journal provides a crucial space for intellectual discourse and encourages students to engage in literary and academic pursuits.

Professor Shafey Kidwai, Director, Sir Syed Academy acknowledged the journal's role in showcasing the literary achievements of AMU students and faculty, while Professor Vibha Sharma, Member Incharge, Public Relations, underscored its importance in creating a research-oriented academic environment.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, the editor of 'Daanish,' Professor Ziaur Rehman Siddiqui expressed gratitude to the contributors and reaffirmed the commitment to uphold the journal’s scholarly standards.

Professor Qamarul Huda Faridi (Head of the Urdu Department), Professor Waseem Raja (Department of History), Professor Muhammad Ali Johar (Former Head, Department of Urdu), Professor Siraj Ajmali (Department of Urdu) and Dr. Tahir Pathan (In-charge Marathi Section) were also present on the occasion.

अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय के यूनिवर्सिटी पॉलिटेक्निक के आर्किटेक्चर सेक्शन द्वारा डिप्लोमा इन आर्किटेक्चर एवं इंटीरियर डिजाइन के 1985-2016 बैच के छात्रों के लिए पूर्व छात्र मिलन समारोह 2025 का आयोजन किया गया, जिसमें नेटवर्किंग और ज्ञान साझा करने के लिए पूर्व और वर्तमान छात्र एक साथ जमा हुए।

पूर्व छात्र मामलों के अध्यक्ष प्रो. सरताज तबस्सुम मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में शामिल हुए। पूर्व छात्र अब्दुल रऊफ ने मुख्य अतिथि के रूप में भाग लिया और अपने पेशेवर अनुभव साझा किए।

जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया  के कुलपति ने शैक्षणिक सत्र 2025-26 के लिए विश्वविद्यालय प्रॉस्पेक्टस लॉन्च किया; विश्वविद्यालय ने आगामी सत्र के लिए प्रवेश शुरू किए

 

नई दिल्ली: जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया  ने विश्वविद्यालय प्रॉस्पेक्टस जारी किया है और शैक्षणिक सत्र 2025-26 के लिए प्रवेश शुरू करने की घोषणा की है। जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया के कुलपति प्रो. मजहर आसिफ ने 145 पन्नों के प्रॉस्पेक्टस को जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया  कुलसचिव प्रो. मोहम्मद महताब आलम रिजवी के साथ विश्वविद्यालय प्रॉस्पेक्टस समिति के सदस्यों की मौजूदगी में ऑनलाइन लॉन्च किया।

 

जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया  ने इस शैक्षणिक वर्ष से अकादमिक उत्कृष्टता और कौशल विकास को बढ़ाने के उद्देश्य से 14 नए पाठ्यक्रम शुरू किए हैं। ये पाठ्यक्रम इस प्रकार हैं: बैचलर ऑफ डिजाइन (बी. डिजाइन) - 4 वर्ष; बीएससी (ऑनर्स) कंप्यूटर साइंस (4 वर्ष); सर्टिफिकेट (डिजाइन और इनोवेशन) स्व-वित्तपोषित सायंकालीन सर्टिफिकेट (टेक्सटाइल डिजाइन) स्व-वित्तपोषित सायंकालीन पी.जी. अग्नि सुरक्षा, लिफ्ट और प्लंबिंग सेवाओं में डिप्लोमा (स्व-वित्तपोषित); सर्टिफिकेट (ग्राफिक आर्ट) (प्रिंट मेकिंग) स्व-वित्तपोषित सायंकालीन; एम.एफ.ए. अधिक विदेशी छात्रों और एनआरआई वार्डों को आकर्षित करने के लिए, जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया  ने सार्क देशों के आवेदकों के लिए फीस कम कर दी है, इसके अलावा यूनिवर्सिटी पॉलिटेक्निक के तहत डिप्लोमा पाठ्यक्रमों के लिए विदेशी नागरिकों/एनआरआई वार्डों के लिए फीस कम कर दी है। बीडीएस कार्यक्रम (जो NEET के माध्यम से छात्रों को प्रवेश देता है) में 2 सीटें विदेशी छात्रों के लिए आरक्षित की गई हैं। जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया  में पीएचडी पाठ्यक्रमों के लिए आवेदन करने वाले विदेशी नागरिक अब प्रवेश साक्षात्कार के लिए ऑनलाइन उपस्थित हो सकते हैं क्योंकि उन्हें प्रवेश प्रक्रिया की आवश्यकता के हिस्से के रूप में प्रवेश साक्षात्कार के लिए उपस्थित होने के लिए वीजा प्राप्त करना और भारत की यात्रा करना मुश्किल लगता है।

 

ऑनलाइन लॉन्च के अवसर पर उप नियंत्रक- परीक्षा, डॉ. एहतेशामुल हक द्वारा प्रस्तुत प्रॉस्पेक्टस की अन्य प्रमुख विशेषताओं में सीयूईटी के माध्यम से प्रवेश आयोजित करने वाले कार्यक्रमों में वृद्धि और एनईपी-उन्मुख कार्यक्रमों पर ध्यान केंद्रित करना शामिल है। सीयूईटी मेरिट स्कोर के माध्यम से 25 कार्यक्रमों (09 यूजी, 05 पीजी, 08 डिप्लोमा कार्यक्रम और 03 उन्नत डिप्लोमा कार्यक्रम) में प्रवेश दिया जाएगा। यह पिछले शैक्षणिक सत्र की तुलना में उल्लेखनीय वृद्धि है, जिसमें सीयूईटी प्रवेश प्रक्रिया के अंतर्गत 20 कार्यक्रम थे।

 

उम्मीदवारों के लिए इसे आसान बनाने, दिल्ली की यात्रा को कम करने और पूरे भारत से छात्रों की विविधता बढ़ाने के लिए, जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया  ने मालेगांव और भोपाल सहित देश के 8 शहरों में 29 कार्यक्रमों के लिए प्रवेश परीक्षा आयोजित करने का निर्णय लिया है।  

 

प्रोफ़ेसर मज़हर आसिफ ने समय पर प्रॉस्पेक्टस जारी करने के लिए समिति और परीक्षा नियंत्रक कार्यालय को बधाई देते हुए यह कहा कि , "इस साल हमने बड़ी संख्या में नए कार्यक्रम शुरू किए हैं जिन्हें विशेष रूप से एनईपी दिशानिर्देशों के अनुसार डिज़ाइन किया गया है। हमारा लक्ष्य है कि जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया  में दाखिला लेने वाले प्रत्येक छात्र को रोजगार क्षमता बढ़ाने के लिए पाठ्यक्रम के ज्ञान से परे कम से कम एक कौशल हासिल करना चाहिए। हम विदेशी छात्रों के प्रवेश को बढ़ाकर अपने जीवंत और बहुसांस्कृतिक शैक्षणिक समुदाय को समृद्ध करने के लिए भी प्रतिबद्ध हैं। हमारा ध्यान जी20 के तहत छात्रों को आकर्षित करना है। इसके अतिरिक्त हमने सार्क देशों के आवेदकों के लिए फीस भी कम कर दी है।” इस बात पर जोर देते हुए कि इस शैक्षणिक वर्ष से, जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया ने अन्य प्रतिष्ठित शिक्षण केंद्रों के बराबर भारतीय और विदेशी भाषाओं के शिक्षण को बढ़ावा दिया है, प्रो आसिफ ने कहा, “जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया  ने अपने पाठ्यक्रम में भारतीय ज्ञान प्रणाली पर बड़ी संख्या में मूल्यवर्धित पाठ्यक्रम शामिल किए हैं। हम नई दिल्ली में विदेशी दूतावासों के सक्रिय  सहयोग से कई विदेशी भाषाओं की पेशकश करने कि डिसह में काम कर रहे हैं। पारंपरिक और भारतीय ज्ञान प्रणालियों के शिक्षण और अध्ययन को विकसित करने का प्रयास इस प्रशासन के लिए प्राथमिकता वाला क्षेत्र रहेगा। हम अपने छात्रों की समग्र भलाई पर भी ध्यान केंद्रित कर रहे हैं। इस दिशा में, इस शैक्षणिक सत्र से, हम परिसर में और अधिक सुविधाएं प्रदान कर रहे हैं, जैसे बेहतर आईटी सुविधाएं, स्व-वित्तपोषित छात्रों के लिए खेल सुविधाएं और शाम की मेडिकल ओपीडी।”

 

जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया  के कुलसचिव प्रो. मोहम्मद महताब आलम रिजवी ने पिछले कुछ महीनों में समिति के सदस्यों के अथक प्रयासों और विचार-विमर्श की सराहना की, जिसके कारण विश्वविद्यालय के प्रॉस्पेक्टस का समय पर लॉन्च संभव हो सका। प्रो. रिजवी ने कहा, "इस वर्ष 14 नए पाठ्यक्रमों की शुरूआत अकादमिक उत्कृष्टता और शिक्षण पाठ्यक्रम में अत्याधुनिक शोध और नवाचार को शामिल करने के लिए विश्वविद्यालय की प्रतिबद्धता को दर्शाती है। इन पाठ्यक्रमों को उद्योग की मांगों को पूरा करने और छात्रों को उनके संबंधित क्षेत्रों में अत्याधुनिक ज्ञान प्रदान करने के लिए सावधानीपूर्वक डिज़ाइन किया गया है। हमने अपने प्रवेश परीक्षा केंद्रों की संख्या बढ़ा दी है ताकि दूर-दराज के स्थानों से आने वाले छात्र जामिया मिल्लिया इस्लामिया  में अध्ययन करने का अवसर न चूकें। हमारे छात्रों को अब उनके समग्र विकास और विकास को सुनिश्चित करने के लिए कई नई सुविधाएँ प्रदान की जाएँगी।"

Nine Students from AMU’s Information and Library Science Department Qualify UGC NET/JRF

ALIGARH, March 6: The Department of Information and Library Science, Aligarh Muslim University, has achieved a remarkable milestone as nine of its students successfully cleared the UGC NET/JRF examination conducted by the National Testing Agency in December 2024. Among them, four students qualified for UGC-JRF, while five students cleared UGC-NET.

Prof. M. Masoom Raza, Chairman of the Department, along with faculty members, congratulated the successful students and wished them a bright and prosperous future. He said that the outstanding accomplishment is a matter of great pride for the department and a testament to its academic excellence.
