AMUMC Hosts Intra-Departmental Moot Court Competition 2025

ALIGARH, March 21: The Department of Law and the Moot Court Society of Aligarh Muslim University Malappuram Centre (AMUMC) successfully organized the Intra-Departmental Moot Court Competition 2025, focusing on the Municipal Corporation Act, 1980. The three-day event saw active participation from 15 teams, providing students with a platform to enhance their legal acumen through research, advocacy, and teamwork.

The final round, held on March 19, 2025, was presided over by an esteemed panel of judges, including Chief Guest Adv. Mani KC, a noted advocate at the Palakkad Court, and Guest of Honor Dr. Saidh A, Secretary of the Bar Association, Perinthalmanna. The panel also included Dr. Shahnawaz Ahmad Malik, Mr. Ghalib Nashter, Mr. Mohd. Shakil Ahmad, Dr. Azmat Ali, Mr. Amir Yusuf Wagey, Dr. Absar Aftab Absar, Dr. Imran Ahmad, Dr. Deeba Khanam, Adv. Abdusalam, and Adv. Prabitha C.

The results of the competition were as follows: Team IDMC007, comprising Ms. Munawara Javed, Ms. Ifrah Fatima, and Ms. Sifat Khan, emerged as the winners and were awarded Rs. 2000. Team IDMC008, represented by Ms. Divyanshi Singh and Ms. Kaneez Zehra, secured the runner-up position and received Rs. 1000. The Best Memorial Award was presented to Shohid Danish Khursheed and Furqan, while Shabista Imam was recognized as the Best Researcher, and Shohid was declared the Best Mooter. All winners and individual awardees were honored with trophies, medals, and certificates.

The competition was organized by the Moot Court Society under the supervision of Mr. Amir Yusuf Wagey, Convener, and Dr. Absar Aftab Absar, Teacher-in-Charge. In their concluding remarks, Ansaf Nizam, Secretary of the Moot Court Society, reflected on the success of the event, praising the contribution of all participants and the importance of such events for the student community. Alisha Azeem, Joint Secretary of the Moot Court Society, delivered the Vote of Thanks, expressing gratitude to everyone involved in making the event a success.

Noble Donation

Prof. Qamar Akhtar Kazmi (Retd.), Former Dean, Faculty of Unani Medicine, AMU, along with Dr. Safia Akhtar Kazmi, Associate Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering & Coordinator, Centre for Green and Renewable Energy, AMU, and Dr. Farah Nasreen, Department of Anaesthesia, presented a cheque of Rs. 31,06,000 to the Pro Vice-Chancellor of AMU, Prof. Mohd. Mohsin Khan. This contribution will support the construction of two special wards at Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), AMU.

Expressing gratitude, Prof. Mohsin Khan stated, “This philanthropic act reflects a deep commitment to healthcare advancement at AMU. Such contributions inspire a culture of giving and strengthen our mission to provide quality medical services.”

Prof. Qamar Akhtar Kazmi remarked, “We want to pay back to our Alma Matar and dedicate our efforts to enhancing medical infrastructure, ensuring better patient care for all.”

Dr. Saira Mehnaz (Provost, Begum Sultan Jahan Hall), Dr. Brij Bhushan Singh (Provost, NRSC Hall), Dr. Faiyazur Rahman (Provost, Aftab Hall), and Dr. Shaukat Haseen (Provost, Indira Gandhi Hall) have been declared members of the University Court at Aligarh Muslim University.

They have been nominated in their capacity as the next senior-most Provosts of their respective Halls of Residence and the NRSC by rotation. Their membership will be valid for a period of three years or until they continue to serve as Provosts of the concerned Hall of Residence, with immediate effect.

Prof. Asiya Chaudhary Declared as Executive Council Member at AMU

ALIGARH, March 20: Prof. Asiya Chaudhary, Provost of Begum Azeezun Nisa Hall, Aligarh Muslim University, has been appointed as a member of the Executive Council of the university, with immediate effect, on the basis of her seniority among the provosts.

AMU’s Department of Social Work Hosts Webinar on ‘Intergenerational Solidarity for Environmental Challenges’ to Mark World Social Work Day 2025



      The Department of Social Work at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), in collaboration with the India Network of Professional Social Workers’ Associations (INPSWA) and the Association of Professional Social Workers in Uttar Pradesh (UPAPSW), organized a webinar titled “Intergenerational Solidarity for Environmental Challenges” to commemorate World Social Work Day.

The event highlighted the critical role of intergenerational collaboration in addressing environmental and social issues, emphasizing social workers' contributions to sustainability, justice, and collective well-being.

Prof. Naseem Ahmad Khan, Chairperson of the Department of Social Work, delivered the welcome address, underscoring social work’s role in bridging generational divides and promoting sustainable practices. He commended the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW) for its advocacy efforts through World Social Work Day in fostering global solidarity.

Prof. Gandhi Doss, President of INPSWA, lauded social workers' efforts in uniting generations and called for enhanced collaboration to address societal issues. Dr. Ipe Varghese, Secretary General of INPSWA, appreciated AMU’s initiative, stressing that a sustainable future depends on shared generational knowledge and action.

Dr. Prashant R. Chauhan, General Secretary of UPAPSW, highlighted the significance of World Social Work Day and the role of professional associations in advancing the field in India. The keynote speaker, Prof. K. Sekar, Consultant and Senior Professor (Psychiatric Social Work) at NIMHANS, Bangalore, delivered an insightful address on the intersection of climate change, mental health, and psychosocial support. He emphasized that intergenerational solidarity strengthens both environmental sustainability and mental resilience in the face of climate crises.

Earlier, Dr. Mohd Uzair, Convener of the webinar, introduced the 2025 theme, emphasizing the necessity of intergenerational solidarity in tackling contemporary challenges. The webinar concluded with a Vote of Thanks by Dr. Mohammad Tahir and Dr. Mohd Arif Khan, Assistant Professors at AMU’s Department of Social Work.

डा. कुर्रतुल ऐन अली द्वारा विश्व सामाजिक कार्य दिवस पर राष्ट्रीय संगोष्ठी में व्याख्यान

अलीगढ़, 19 मार्चः अलीगढ़ मुस्लिम विश्वविद्यालय (एएमयू) के सामाजिक कार्य विभाग में सहायक प्रोफेसर डॉ. कुर्रतुल ऐन अली को विश्व सामाजिक कार्य दिवस पर राष्ट्रीय संगोष्ठी में व्याख्यान देने के लिए अतिथि के रूप में आगरा के डॉ. भीमराव अंबेडकर विश्वविद्यालय के सामाजिक विज्ञान संस्थान के सामाजिक कार्य विभाग द्वारा आमंत्रित किया गया।

डॉ. अली ने केएपी मॉडल के माध्यम से स्थायी कल्याण के लिए अंतर-पीढ़ीगत एकजुटता को मजबूत करना’, पर बोले हुए पीढ़ियों के बीच निर्भरता की अवधारणा पर जोर दिया और पारस्परिक सहयोगदेखभाल और ज्ञान और संसाधनों के हस्तांतरण के महत्व को रेखांकित किया।

भारत में बढ़ती बुजुर्ग आबादी और युवा पीढ़ियों के बीच शहरी प्रवास के रुझान के साथ जनसांख्यिकीय बदलावों को देखते हुएडॉ. अली ने अलगाव को कम करने और सामाजिक लचीलापन सुनिश्चित करने के लिए मजबूत अंतर-पीढ़ीगत बंधनों को बढ़ावा देने की आवश्यकता पर प्रकाश डाला।

डॉ. अली के व्याख्यान के बादएक चर्चा हुईजिसमें प्रतिभागियों ने सामाजिक कार्य प्रथाओं में केएपी मॉडल के अनुप्रयोग में गहरी रुचि व्यक्त की। संगोष्ठी ने भारत की उभरती जनसांख्यिकीय चुनौतियों का समाधान करने में अंतर-पीढ़ीगत एकजुटता के महत्व पर बहुमूल्य अंतर्दृष्टि प्रदान की।

NEW REGISTRAR OF JMI

Professor Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi Appointed as Regular Registrar of Jamia Millia Islamia

Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi today assumed charge as the Registrar of Jamia Millia  Islamia (JMI) for a period of five years. With the appointment of Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, the university gets a full-time, regular Registrar after a long gap of more than 4 years. 

Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi, Director of the  Nelson Mandela Centre for Peace and Conflict Resolution, Jamia Millia Islamia, is a distinguished academician, scholar and administrator with more than 20 years of teaching and research experience. He has previously worked in premier and prestigious institutions and think-tanks of the Government of India, including, the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, New Delhi. He specializes in international relations, foreign policy and security issues with a focus on Iran, Iran's Nuclear Programme, Iran-China economic, political and defence relations. A close observer of developments in West Asia and North Africa region, energy security in West Asia and peace and conflict resolution in the West Asia and North Africa (WANA) region, Prof Rizvi has spearheaded several joint research projects of IDSA and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran, and GCC countries.

Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi is the Visitor's Nominee of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) Court since April 2022 and serves as an external member of the Institutional Academic Integrity Panel (IAIP) Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU), Hyderabad, besides serving on the Boards of several Centres and Departments of JMI. A Ph.D. in Political Science (International Relations) from AMU, Prof. Rizvi has been a recipient of the coveted Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Scholarship for Doctoral Studies, Teen Murti House, New Delhi. A prolific scholar, his  work  has been widely received by scholars in India and abroad, especially those working on  West Asia. 

Vice-Chancellor JMI, Prof. Mazhar Asif,  extended his congratulations to the JMI fraternity on getting a full-time Registrar after a long wait of over 4 years. Prof.  Asif said, " I am hopeful that with the appointment of the regular Registrar, the university will witness a period of administrative excellence and efficiency". He added, "Under Prof. Rizvi, the focus of JMI administration will be to streamline processes in order to maximise productivity of both the teaching and non-teaching faculty and staff so that JMI can attain the highest levels of academic growth and development ".

Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi expressing his happiness on his appointment said, "I am honoured to take on this huge responsibility and look forward to working closely with the faculty members, students and staff of JMI. Under the leadership of the Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mazhar Asif, we are committed to optimizing our existing resources and working towards getting more funds from various Ministries and Offices of the Government of India so as to enhance the infrastructure of the university."  Prof. Rizvi said "The administration will continue its keen focus on the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) and take all necessary steps to create a harmonious, enriching and academically enabling environment for the intellectual growth and progress of our vibrant student community". 

A wave of joy and excitement spread among JMI faculty, staff members and students as they received the news of the appointment of Prof. Md. Mahtab Alam Rizvi as the full-time Registrar. This, they echoed, will not only streamline and strengthen the functioning of the 104-year old Central university but also infuse in the much needed vigour, stability and enthusiasm essential to fostering good governance and efficiency in administration

Aligarh, March 12: Mr. Noorus Salam, currently serving as the Joint Finance Officer at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), has been appointed as the Finance Officer of the University. He will hold this position alongside his existing duties until further orders.

Prof M. Mohsin Khan Appointed AMU Pro-Vice Chancellor

ALIGARH, March 10: Professor M. Mohsin Khan from the Department of Commerce, Aligarh Muslim University, has been appointed as the Pro-Vice-Chancellor of the university with immediate effect, until further orders.

Prof Khan is a distinguished academician, researcher, and administrator with more than three decades of experience in the higher education sector. Over the years, he has held various significant positions within the university. He served as the Dean of the Faculty of Commerce from 2014 to 2016 and as the Chairman of the Department of Commerce from 2016 to 2019. Additionally, he held the office of University Proctor for more than three years and is currently serving as the Finance Officer of the university.

An accomplished researcher, Prof Khan has published dozens of research papers and authored several books and monographs. He has actively participated in numerous national and international conferences, seminars, and symposia as a speaker and chair. His commitment to research and academic mentorship is evident in his guidance of 15 Ph.D. scholars, with four more currently pursuing their research under his supervision.

Prof Khan has also led significant research projects, including an ICSSR-sponsored major research project titled "The New Middle Class: Impact on Growing Indian Economy vis-a-vis Consumer Market - A Case Study of Delhi & NCR" (2017-19).

Throughout his service at AMU, he has held several key administrative positions, including Member Incharge of University Gas Services and President of the University Swimming Club. As a faculty member, he has been actively engaged in teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students, with specialization in entrepreneurship, banking and finance, and financial institutions and markets.

During his tenure as Chairman of the Department of Commerce and as Dean of the Faculty, he played a pivotal role in initiating multiple academic activities, including four workshops, one international conference, and one national seminar. His enthusiasm for sports has also been evident through his active involvement in the university's sports activities, coordinated by the University Games Committee.
